Kida, more familiarly known by its nickname, turtle, is a mythical creature that is a combination of a turtle and a snake. It is said that about 1,300 years ago, the deity Myōken crossed the sea from China on the back of the Kida.
The Kida was dedicated about 300 years ago by De-machi. It is 3 meters in length with a height and width of 2.5 meters, and weighs more than 100 kg.
One team of five bearers can fit inside the Kida, one of which manipulates the neck. The appearance of the neck swinging up, down, left, and right and frolicking around in a humorous manner makes the Kida the most popular part of the festival.
